Migrations: Mobility in Contemporary Art

TJ Demos’ talk will look closely at how contemporary art intersects with the conflicts of global cultural politics. To address this question, he will present on his current research and discuss «Uneven Geographies: Art and Globalization,» a group exhibition he is co-curating at Nottingham Contemporary (UK), opening in May 2010.

T. J. Demos is a critic and a Reader in the Department of Art History, University College London. He writes widely on modern and contemporary art, contributing regularly to international journals such as Artforum, Grey Room, and Texte zur Kunst. Recently the director of the Londonbased research project «Zones of Conflict: Rethinking Contemporary Art During Global Crisis» (2008–09), he is currently a research fellow at the Flemish Academic Centre for Science and the Arts in Brussels, where he is working on a new book on contemporary art and globalization.
