At Full Speed: Wong Kar-wai, Hong Kong Cinema and Cultural Studies

-

A cooperation with Institut für Medien- und Kommunikationswissenschaft der Alpen-Adria-Universität Klagenfurt

The Hong Kong cult director Wong Kar-wai who was born in Shanghai has established an unique visual style and a complex form of narration which is determined by strong literary influences. As a filmmaker he reaches a global audience. Starting with the forms and conventions of Hong Kong genre films, he creates postmodern art movies by blending literature and cinema. On the one hand, the work of Wong Kar-wai will be analyzed by looking at the cultural contexts of its production and reception. On the other hand, different contemporary approaches in film studies will be used and compared to explore his art world.

Lectures by a.o: Prof. Dr. Angela Keppler (Universität Mannheim), Winfried Marotzki (Magdeburg), Marcus S. Kleiner (Duisburg), Igor Korsic (Ljubljana) und Olaf Sanders (Köln). Concept: Rainer Winter.
